Metal Art Lighting Sculpture ~ Repurposed Material Lamp ~ Pandemic Lockdown Creation Lamp

The Evolution Table Lamp is a pandemic lamp of sorts mainly created from discarded leftover materials in my shop while honoring the stay at home order during covid-19. Repurposing empty spray cans and a discarded oil drum morphed into my vision, becoming the lamp body and shade. The copper patches symbolize all the bandages on a country under siege from a virus and a long history of racial inequality.

Components:

Love the switch, an appliance knob with good ergonomics and the click of rotation echoes in reminiscent of the second hand movement of a favored quartz clock deep within the hollow spraycan body. There’s also a connection with this lamp and the Harley Davidsons I once owned. Both bikes had “BLOCKHEAD EVOS” engine type that inspired my idea for the V twin bulb sockets that are in the same alignment just like the engine on the bike. The lamp base consists of raw materials and repurposed hardware from my junk drawer, discarded feet from a shelving unit and bolt bullet caps from my FXST that were used to attach saddlebags on the bike. Two 75 watt equivalent led bulbs illuminate an area beautifully and have a glowing effect on the clear polycarbonate sockets with copper interiors. All the bare metal is finished by applying metal bluing, creating a contrasting look with varying shades of greens, greys, and blues. Shade, body and base are sprayed with a protective coating of clear enamel . A twisted style copper colored lamp cord and black antique reproduction plug completes this unique inhouse creation.
